The SIEMENS PLC SIMATIC S7-1200 belongs to the newest and most advanced generation of SIEMENS PLCs. It has significantly increased capabilities and functions such as an integrated web server, high program processing speeds, integrated functions related to enumeration tasks, measurement, closed loop control, PROFINET port (through which programming is done), etc.
The S7-1200 is a Compact PLC. This PLC can also be made modular by adding cards. Each CPU has onboard Digital Inputs and Outputs (DI & DQ), while some also have analog inputs (AI) & outputs (AQ).
The term CPU means the microprocessor, an integrated power supply and the input and output modules, digital and analog. Depending on the CPU type, from none to eight I/O Modules can be connected to the right of the CPU, while up to three CM Communication Modules can be connected to the left of the S7-1200.
CMs are communication cards and support various communication protocols such as PROFIBUS, ASi Bus, GPRS, RS232, RS422, RS485. Signal Modules (SM) are divided into digital and analog. Digital input and output modules (DI & DQ) support various voltages (24VDC, 120/250VAC) and depending on the output (Transistor or Relay) provide different current. The analog input and output modules (AI & AQ) provide a wide range of cards to support various signals such as RTD, TC, 0-10V, -+10V, 0...20mA, 4..20mA etc., cards which they have different bit resolution depending on our requirements.
